MIAMI — Opening night of Mariah Carey's Adventures of Mimi: The Voice, the Hits, the Tour could have been subtitled The Videos, the Costumes, the Waiting. But when Carey set aside the spectacle to focus on her music and reach out to fans, she hit her stride — and those high Cs.

It could have been first-show jitters, but on Saturday night, the singer seemed preoccupied at the start of the concert — as if she forgot that the reason her fans had gathered (some from as far as Portugal and Peru) was to hear her sing, not to see how many outfits she could squeeze into. Carey's backup singers and dancers carried on while she changed, DJ Clue tried to keep the momentum going, and Spike Lee (via his mini Mimi movies about rumors and gossip the singer is always facing) tried to distract from the fact that for chunks of the two-hour show, Mariah was onscreen, but not onstage.

Perhaps her fashion-minded fans didn't mind — after all, Carey did show off a lot of skin, wearing a black bikini with a cape, two different gowns with exposed midriffs, and a metallic red burlesque number that lent itself to lots of straddling poses behind a straight-back chair during "Breakdown." But it wasn't just Carey's cutout gowns that had something missing — being offstage for 10 minutes at a stretch meant the set list also got the cutout treatment, reducing several songs to snippets.

On a duet with her backup singer and fan favorite Trey Lorenz, she didn't have time to sing the entire "One Sweet Day" with him so they started the song at the bridge. And though Carey claims "I Know What You Want" — her hit with opening act Busta Rhymes — she didn't seem to know that that the crowd wanted was to see them perform the song together. Busta had included the song in his set, exhorting the ladies to sing Carey's part, and teased that he'd be back later. But when it was Carey's turn onstage, she opted to have the rapper "appear" via the music video they shot together in 2003. Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri and the late Ol' Dirty Bastard also participated in much the same manner during "Heartbreaker," "It's Like That," and "Fantasy," which was more understandable — but Busta?

Carey was clued in that her fans wanted to hear a lot of inspirational numbers, so she packed the set with "Make It Happen," "Fly Like a Bird" (which came with a backing choir), and "Hero," which she said wasn't planned, but so many people had told her it had "changed their lives," that she "can't do a show without it." Those are all big numbers, and no one sings big better than Mariah — she hit all the high C notes with ease — but it was when she brought the show down a notch halfway through the set that she seemed happiest.

Standing on a platform in the middle of the floor seats, Carey was able to reach out to the fans and they to her. One girl even threw her purse to Carey as an offering (whatever happened to the days of bras and roses?). As if in exchange, Carey tossed her sunglasses out to the sea of grabbing hands. "I'm in the middle of the people," she said, amazed, as if to herself. Though "Don't Forget About Us" and "Always Be My Baby" are meant to be love songs, she sang them as if they were love letters to her fans, sending her dancers away so it would be just her and her adoring public for a moment. "We didn't really rehearse this," she apologized, but having a spontaneous moment was exactly what she needed to get back on track.

While all the glitz and glamour of the lights, the dancers, the video screens, the costumes, and the confetti are what we expect from a diva of Carey's stature, her fans actually want something far less extravagant: All they were talking about while filing in and out of the venue were the songs. It sounds simple enough, but Carey doesn't let it be simple — not when she can make holding a note, as she did in the encore of "We Belong Together," a major accomplishment. Clutching herself tight as if she could bottle it up inside somehow before she had to ultimately let go, she found her release, her purpose. "I didn't make it easy," she said, after letting the last strain fall away. And if it were easy, no one would be in awe that despite everything else — first-night glitches, gossip and all — she nailed it.

Furtado Still No. 1 But Beyonce, Fergie Heat Up

Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous" featuring Timbaland extends its reign atop the Billboard Hot 100 and Pop 100 charts to six weeks. On the former tally, Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" and Cassie's "Me & U" hold at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. "Crazy" also fronts the Hot Digital Songs chart for a third week.

But "Me & U" is unseated on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs after one week, replaced by Young Dro's "Shoulder Lean" featuring T.I., which is also the Hot 100's greatest airplay gainer, rising 15-13.

Beyonce's "Deja Vu" featuring Jay-Z rockets 32-4 on the Hot 100 while Fergie's "London Bridge" soars 84-5 in its second week, both thanks to download sales. The 79-point leap is the second biggest jump in Hot 100 history, runner-up only to this year's 86-4 move of the "High School Musical" track "Breaking Free" by Zac Efron, Andrew Seeley and Vanessa Anne Hudgens.

Elsewhere on the chart, the Pussycat Dolls' "Buttons" featuring Snoop Dogg falls 4-6, Yung Joc's "It's Goin' Down" descends 5-7 and Christina Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man" holds at No. 8. The Fray's "Over My Head (Cable Car)" warms the No. 9 spot and Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" featuring Wyclef drops 6-10 to round out the top tier.

Jessica Simpson's "A Public Affair" is the Hot 100's greatest sales gainer, ascending 30-14, and Breaking Benjamin's "The Diary of Jane" earns the top debut at No. 55.

Also new are Shareefa's "Need a Boss" featuring Ludacris (No. 91), Hannah Montana's "Best of Both Worlds" (No. 92) and Ciara's "Get Up" featuring Chamillionaire (No. 93).

Mana's "Labios Compartidos" leads Hot Latin Songs after debuting atop the chart last week, while Koji Kondo's "Super Mario Brothers Theme" maintains its pole position on Hot Ringtones for a 10th week. Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" remains atop the Adult Contemporary tally for a 14th frame.

On the Hot Country Songs tally, Rodney Atkins' "If You're Going Through Hell (Before The Devil Even Knows)" rises 3-1, ending the three-week run of Brad Paisley's "The World."

Three Days Grace's "Animal I Have Become" leads the Mainstream Rock chart for a third week and AFI's "Miss Murder" holds atop Modern Rock for a second.

Ashlee Simpson Angers Marie Claire Readers

Well after making a statement in Marie Claire in the July issue as the cover girl, Ashlee finds herself eating her own words yet again.

A statement made by Simpson to love your body and to take care of it, angered some fans when photo's of her surfaced sporting a new and different face. She has yet to address any rumors that she has had plastic surgery done but others beg to differ.

Rumors of Simpson getting a nose job surfaced last month when photo's of her new image were taken at an event.

This is not the only time Simpson has gotten into trouble for making statements and contradicting herself. She claimed she would never lip sync in an interview and was caught red handed on SNL.

For goodness sake, it's better to shut up than to have said nothing at all.

Mariah On Tour and Looking Sexy

Mariah Carey is reinventing herself again. Actually, to be exact, nine more times.

The sexy songstress will play a handful of roles when she kicks off her new tour Saturday in Miami. Think superhero-meets-modern-James-Bond-meets-old-Hollywood.

For the jaunt — Adventures of Mimi: The Voice, the Hits, the Tour — the R&B sensation will at times tone down her sometimes over-the-top style, wearing flowing gowns and menswear-inspired tuxedo styles designed specifically for her by celebrity stylist June Ambrose.

"The show starts off very 'Blade Runner,' with black-and-white, racy looks where [Mariah] looks like an R&B superhero," said Ambrose, who cites Gianni Versace and Roberto Cavalli as inspirations. "And then her lightness comes out and she is emancipated with bright colors, showing off her great goddess legs, ready to celebrate and party."

Carey will have nine outfit changes throughout the show but only brief interludes in which to morph into them. "My inspiration was creating an R&B hip-hop musical," Ambrose said. "The show is cabaret-like: fun, racy, sexy, but subtle. I designed the outfits [to look] theatrical. [The concert] starts out like a black-and-white affair, and then she strips away all the rumors and she's born again."

Ambrose said Carey will be wearing things you "wouldn't normally see her in," like a white men's blazer. "When would you ever see Mariah in a men's blazer?" she said. "This is to give her a James Bond look. It's very mod, very sleek."

Ms. Carey will shake off that blazer real fast for "Breakdown," at which point she'll reveal garters and a black off-the-shoulder leotard encrusted with Swarovski crystals.

Ambrose calls a similar outfit, which Carey will wear toward the end of the show, one of her favorites. "It's dyed perfectly to her skin, but it looks like she's naked," Ambrose said. "It looks like there are stones bouncing off her flesh. She looks like a million bucks." And let's not forget those blinding, one-of-a-kind legs. Don't worry, guys: There will still be lots of skin. "She does this really burlesque, fiery number that's very sexy," Ambrose said.

Other sultry costumes include a sky-blue, Halston-inspired goddess gown; a sunflower-colored chiffon floor-length stunner; and a wine-colored Diana Ross-style gown, worn with a $10 million Harry Winston brooch. "Mariah's body is voluptuous," Ambrose said. "It's about her finding her sexuality and nothing else."

Also added to the mix are 7-inch stiletto high heels in black patent leather designed by Paris shoemaker Courtney Crawford. "They're super-high, super-sexy, but she can definitely jump around in them," Ambrose said.

We'll be seeing a little old-school Mariah when she transforms into a superhero-like costume that features a long silver cape with the word "Mimi" displayed on the back, blindfold and platform heels. She'll then take off the cape and reveal a pair of cute knickers (with butterflies on the back pockets, natch) and a crop top. "That's the round-the-way girl look," Ambrose said. "She's the most accessible in those looks."

While this may be Ambrose's first time styling one of Mariah's tours, it's not her first time at the rodeo. She's already worked on tours for Diddy, Missy Elliott and R. Kelly. Ambrose was the inspiration for Diddy's red metallic suit in the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Mo Money, Mo Problems" video, Missy Elliott's signature blinged-out Adidas tracksuits, and Jay-Z's first suit for the "Can't Knock the Hustle" video.

"I was there when hip-hop went from black-and-white to color," said the Antigua-born designer, who started out in the promotions department 15 years ago at Uptown/ MCA Records and later styled bands like the Backstreet Boys.

Ambrose will also design Jay-Z's costumes for his upcoming world tour and said she's looking overseas for inspiration.

"I want to look at some European designers, maybe some Japanese hip-hop and animation looks," she said. "It's going to be more melodic. It's him coming back, from executive to hip-hop. I'll be going into the styling lab."

Kanye West, Gwen Stefani Named To Vanity Fair's Best-Dressed List

They may have always thought of themselves as extremely fashionable, but now Kanye West and Gwen Stefani have empirical proof that they're style leaders — the pair have been named to Vanity Fair's 2006 International Best-Dressed List for the first time.

Stefani, whose funky L.A.M.B. line has snagged many a teen's allowance since its inception two years ago, shares her honor with Oprah Winfrey, Condoleezza Rice, Selma Blair, Sofia Coppola and Renee Zellweger. West is the only musician/producer among the best-dressed men, who also include David Beckham, George Clooney, news anchor Anderson Cooper, gossip columnist Richard Johnson and Count Manfredi Della Gherardesca.

"Gwen and Kanye are big-time style leaders," said Amy Fine Collins, social correspondent for Vanity Fair. "They both have such distinct, strong styles and are completely visible and influential.

"[Gwen] is fearless," Collins continued. "She can go drop-dead glamorous and pull it off better than anyone else. She goes to extremes of glamour, partly by channeling old-time movie stars like Jean Harlow and by looking to artists for inspiration like Frida Kahlo, who she named her as one of her style influences. She is not afraid of looking like someone else, being glamorous in an elegant way and sexy and risqué without looking trashy. She understands fashion from the inside out because she's a designer too. She's also in touch with her masculine side and gets inspiration from her husband's [Gavin Rossdale] closet. She experiments and she succeeds."

West was chosen for his "fresh," "poetic" and "cutting-edge" style, and for being "outspoken, not only in his beliefs, but also in his style," noted Collins.

"I love what he does with color," she said. "He loves pale pastels and nice sugary colors. He has a beautiful way with language, but also with appearance. There's no one else that's doing what he's doing. He goes far in new directions and is very watched, imitated and admired. He feels good about himself and it shows. Kanye is a college boy. He knows about the Lacoste preppy collegiate look, but he's not going to leave it at that. Instead, he takes elements of that and almost makes inside jokes on it. He never looks like a slob, even if he's in jeans."

This year marks the 67th anniversary of Vanity Fair's best-dressed list (the list appears in the September issue, which hits newsstands on August 8). The verdicts are made by more than 1,000 fashion insiders who send ballots with their selections to the magazine. Landing on the list is a huge honor in the fashion world and a badge of glory that usually nets invitations to the most luxurious events in the world.

An individual must be on the best-dressed list four times in order to be inducted into the hall of fame, which includes Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Tina Turner, Bianca Jagger, Iman, Sophia Lauren and Queen Noor of Jordan, along with Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, David Bowie, Fred Astaire and Bryan Ferry. This year Kate Moss joins the hall of fame and appears on the cover of the magazine wearing only patent-leather stiletto boots and white gloves.

Surprisingly, Gwen beat out Madonna this year, who has been on the best-dressed list before. Collins said starlets like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are far from making the best-dressed list because they are way too "overstyled."

"You have a sense that someone is dressing them like they are a paper doll," she said. "We look for people whose personality is coming through in their clothes. You can see inside their soul with what they wear."

Shakira Leads VMA Nominations

The list of nominees for the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards includes a familiar mix of hip-shakers, funky Californians, ambitious blondes — and one group of tight-trousered gatecrashers.

Peppers lead the field with seven noms each, followed closely by the majestic Madonna and upstart Las Vegas rockers Panic! at the Disco, both with five nods. Christina Aguilera is next with four.

Videos from all five artists — Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie," the Chili Peppers' "Dani California," Madonna's "Hung Up," Panic's "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" and Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man" — will go head-to-head for the coveted Video of the Year Moonman at the 2006 VMAs, which will air live from New York's Radio City Music Hall on August 31.

Panic! are also one of the first artists confirmed to perform on the show, joining an all-star cast that also includes Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, T.I., Ludacris and the Killers.

Shakira's "Hips" scored nominations for Best Female Video (where it also faces off against Aguilera and Madonna, as well as Kelly Clarkson's "Because of You" and Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous"), Best Dance Video, Best Pop Video and the Viewer's Choice Award, plus a pair of technical nods — for Choreography and Art Direction — along with its Video of the Year nom.

In addition to their Video of the Year nom, the Chili Peppers' "Dani California" is up for Best Group Video and Best Rock Video (it also landed a host of technical nominations, for Direction, Editing, Cinematography and Art Direction).

VMA vet Madonna is up for Best Female Video, Dance Video, Pop Video and Choreography, while Panic! at the Disco — who less than two years ago weren't even a band — saw their "Sins" clip nominated for Best Rock Video, Best Group Video and Best New Artist (going up against Angels & Airwaves' "The Adventure," Avenged Sevenfold's "Bat Country," Rihanna's "S.O.S.," Chris Brown's "Run It!" and James Blunt's "You're Beautiful"), plus an Art Direction nom.

Aguilera's four nominations include nods for Video of the Year and Best Female Video, while a gaggle of artists — including AFI, Chris Brown and Gnarls Barkley — locked up three nominations a piece. Fall Out Boy, Kanye West, Rihanna and the Pussycat Dolls each scored two noms.

For the first time in VMA history, viewers will be able to vote for their favorites in all categories (not just Viewer's Choice).

In addition, this year there will be two new categories for the online gaming community to vote on, through Gametrailers.com and Xfire: Best Video Game Soundtrack and Best Video Game Score. Winners will be announced live on vma.mtv.com on August 31 during the MTV Overdrive broadcast.

With only a month to go until the release of her new CD "A Public Affair", Jessica Simpson has already switched the cover picture of the album.Last week the cover art for the CD surfaced showing a sultry Jessica with her hair down, sporting a strapless dress. But it looks like the Simpson camp changed their mind and decided to go with more of a girl-next-door look. Jessica's rep Rob Shuter tells TMZ the final decision on a cover had not been made by the time one had to be provided to Jess' record label, so the first cover option (of three choices they had) was given. That cover was ultimately not chosen and Jessica went with the cover shown here.The new album cover has a casual looking Jess with nothing but a t-shirt on, her hair pulled back and wearing a ring on her right index finger.Coincidentally, Simpson's latest cover pic looks particularly similar to her Sony Music label mate Jennifer Lopez's cover for her 2002 album "This Is Me...Then" - even down to the handwriting. And that isn't the album's only comparison to another pop diva. Her first single has already been compared to Madonna's 80s hit "Holiday."

'NOW 22' Remains Atop Album Chart In Slow Sales Week

As the sole album to sell more than 100,000 copies this week, the "NOW 22" compilation sits at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 for a second week in a row. The BMG/Zomba/EMI/UME collaboration moved 207,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan, enough to maintain the lead despite a 48% dip in sales.

This week is particularly slow on the big chart, with overall album sales at 8,908,000 -- the lowest number seen since the week ending Jan. 23, 1994, when 8,853,000 albums were sold.

Los Lonely Boys' sophomore studio set "Sacred" (One Haven/Or) earns the Garza brothers their best chart position yet, entering at No. 2 with 67,000. The album features the single "Diamonds," which reached No. 6 on Billboard Radio Monitor's Triple-A chart. The group's self-titled effort achieved a better single-week tally, moving 76,000 over the 2004 Christmas holiday.

Country singer Rodney Atkins has his best week ever on both The Billboard 200 and the Hot Country Albums chart, as his second album, "If You're Going Through Hell," enters at No. 3 and No. 1, respectively. The Curb release sold 55,000 copies; Atkins' 2003 set, "Honesty," only reached No. 50 on the Country Albums chart and never appeared on the 200.

Back on the big chart, Gnarls Barkley's Downtown/Atlantic release "St. Elsewhere" bumps up a notch 5-4 with 53,000, a slip of 6%. The soundtrack to Disney's "High School Musical" ascends 7-5 in its 28th week on the chart, with 52,000 copies and a gain of 4%. Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang" (Lyric Street) climbs 8-6 with 50,000 and a +2% change.

Nelly Furtado's Mosley Music/Geffen album "Loose" continues its descent 4-7 with 47,000 (-18%), while Rihanna gains some footing, moving 10-8 with 45,000 (-4%). The Dixie Chicks' "Taking the Long Way" (Columbia) re-enters the top tier 11-9 with 44,000 copies and a 6% decline in sales. After 45 weeks on the chart, the Pussycat Dolls also re-emerge in the top 10 to round out the group, moving 13-10 with 43,000 (+3%).

The debut full-length from the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, "Don't You Fake It" (Virgin), scores a No. 25 entry on the Billboard 200 thanks to an opening frame of 25,000 units. Eric Church's Capitol Nashville set "Sinners Like Me" arrives at No. 29 with 24,000. No other albums debuted this week in the top 50.

Overall CD sales were down 4% from the previous week and down 13% compared to the same week a year ago. Sales for 2006 are down 5% compared to 2005 at 197.8 million units.

NSYNC's Lance Bass Reveals He's Gay: 'I'm Not Ashamed ... I Don't Think It's Wrong'

After years of speculation, Lance Bass has confirmed the rumors and told People magazine that he is gay.

"The thing is, I'm not ashamed — that's the one thing I want to say," the 'NSYNC singer told the mag in the issue that hits newsstands Friday. "I don't think it's wrong. I'm not devastated going through this. I'm more liberated and happy than I've been my whole life. I'm just happy."

The rumors started during 'NSYNC's heyday (the group is currently on hiatus) but heated up in the last few months as he was spotted frequently with gay-rights activist and reality-TV personality Reichen Lehmkuhl, who won the $1 million prize on "The Amazing Race 4" with his former partner Chip Arndt. Lehmkuhl has since appeared on other reality shows such as "Fear Factor" and hosted a talk show on the now-defunct Q Television.

After tabloids and gossip sites started tracking Bass and Lehmkuhl's public appearances together, Lehmkuhl responded in mid-April by posting on his Web site that he likes to keep his personal life private. "As for the rumors about me and Lance, please continue to remind people that things that I do not discuss anymore, such as the private and personal relationships that I have, are just that — private — unless I choose to open up with details to my family and close friends for reasons of support and love," he wrote. "I wish people could allow that part of me for, well, just me and who I choose to share my life with and love ... and to leave it well enough alone."

Despite this wish, Bass told People that the rumors about the two being a couple were "really starting to affect my daily life," so he decided to come forward and confirm that they're in a "very stable" relationship. "Now it feels like it's on my terms. I'm at peace with my family, my friends, myself and God, so there's nothing else that I worry about."

It also helps that Bass no longer feels compelled to hide his private life to protect his bandmates, since the band has been on hiatus for four years. When 'NSYNC were in full swing, he worried that coming out would hurt the band. "I didn't know: Could that be the end of 'NSYNC?" he told People. "So I had that weight on me of, like, 'Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it's bad.' So I just never did ... I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said [that I was gay], it would overpower everything."

Bass said he's known that he's gay for his "whole life ... from childhood on," but struggled because he knew it would be "something that I would have to hide my whole life." Bass hid it from his bandmates — who suspected anyway "because we were like brothers," he said, and they wondered, " 'Why aren't you hitting on women all the time and acting like a rock star?' Because I was a good Christian boy, that's why."

Their suspicions were also complicated by the fact that Bass was dating women until he was 22 (he's now 27). "I've definitely, you know, been with women," Bass said. "And I've had great relationships with them where I was definitely in love. It's just I grew to a point where deep inside I knew that I could never truly have a relationship with a woman. I don't know if they ever suspected. It was never brought up."

"He took years to really think about how he was going to tell everyone," Joey Fatone told People. "I back him up 100 percent."

"I've know Lance for more than 10 years," JC Chasez told MTV News. "We have been through so much together. He is family and I support him unconditionally."

Fatone was the first 'NSYNC bandmate Bass told about being gay, after Fatone walked in on Bass and a male date at his house in Orlando, Florida. Fatone's response at the time? "Dude, I don't care," Bass recalled him saying. Chris Kirkpatrick found out last summer and JC Chasez three months ago.

"Very few people have the guts to come up to you and say, 'Hey, are you gay?' " Bass said. "I'm pretty sure they all knew and they probably all talked to each other, but they had the respect to let me tell them. I haven't had the conversation with Justin [Timberlake] yet. I know he knows, but I've never really sat him down and said it. I will be calling him."

Telling his bandmates has been easy, but telling his family was another matter. His sister became pale and started crying when he told her, while his mother "broke down." "The worst part about it was my mom found out not from me," Bass said. "She found out on the Internet, and that's what just killed me. ... It destroyed her for a little bit." His father, in the meantime, was concerned about diseases, telling Lance that "It's much easier for gay people to get AIDS," and "Statistics show that these relationships don't last. You know it's not going to last." "I was like, 'Dad, wow!' "

In Bass' hometown of Clinton, Mississippi, where his mother is a middle-school teacher and his father works in real estate, being gay is "not looked at very highly," he said. But as worried as he was that his grandparents would take it even worse, his maternal grandmother, who was told last week, handled it "so well," he says. "She was like, 'You know what? I may not agree with it, but I love you just the same and you're welcome in my house anytime.' "

For now, Bass and Lehmkuhl are "taking it one day at a time," since the relationship is only a few months old. They met because Lehmkuhl was Bass' real-estate agent, and the two became friends, then lovers. "This is a huge turning point in my life and also in his life too," Bass said. Eventually, Bass would like to have a family and hopes to have his own kids as well as adopt.

"I want people to take away from this that being gay is a norm," Bass said. "That the stereotypes are out the window ... I've met so many people like me that it's really encouraged me. I call them the SAGs — the straight-acting gays. We're just normal, typical guys. I love to watch football and drink beer."

And if people ask him now if he's gay, Bass said he plans to respond, "No, I'm also gay." Meaning that it won't define him — just the part of himself that he doesn't have to hide anymore.

It took a couple years and some serious discounting, but Britney Spears is finally selling her New York penthouse apartment and officially getting out of the Big Apple.

According to the New York Post's Braden Keil, the pop starlet's 4,440 sq. ft., four-level pied-a-terre in the famous Silk Building has gone to contract for $4 million, though it was originally put on the market two years ago for just under $6 million. An eight-room condo, the NoHo pad has three bedrooms and 4 baths, as well as 13-foot ceilings, wood-burning fireplaces, and a large rooftop terrace and solarium. Its proximity to a busy stretch of Broadway provided local residents and NYU students with frequent sightings of the Britster, whether at Tower Records or the local Starbucks.

There's no word on who the buyer is, but he or she certainly has a legacy to uphold: Before Britney, previous occupants of the Silk Building have included Keith Richards, Russell Simmons, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, and Cher.

The recording of Beyoncé's upcoming B'Day album was kept a secret, even from the singer's father/manager.

B makes the revelation in the new issue of Giant magazine, hitting newsstands Monday.

"I don't mind pressure," the former Destiny's Child leading lady told writer Scott Poulson-Bryant. "I'm very good under pressure. But I wanna put myself under pressure, not be pressured by someone else, or else I'm angry and it blocks my creativity. ... That's why I didn't tell anyone about this album."

According to Beyoncé, the only people who knew she was back in the studio (she was supposed to be vacationing) were her A&R guy and the producers she summoned into different rooms under the same roof: Rich Harrison, Swizz Beatz and Rodney Jerkins.

"I'd go to another one and say, 'Rich got some fire, you gotta come with it, man,' " recalled Beyoncé, who recorded three tracks a day for two weeks. "It was magical. We'd just write a chorus or a verse and go into the next room and work on it. Everyone was excited to be here, just being creative. It didn't have any of that negative competition. And I was very conscious of my budget. I paid for it all myself, so I spent the least money on this project than any I've ever spent on a record, Destiny's Child included."

Along with revealing details of B'Day, the Giant cover story, titled "If I Was Your Girlfriend," also comes complete with a rather revealing photo spread courtesy of Ellen Von Unwerth, who recently shot Christina Aguilera's new album cover.

The concept is to give viewers a chance to see what it might look like if you woke up in the morning with Beyoncé on your bed and watched her get ready for the day. Pics show the singer in a sexy negligee, in the shower (complete with shower cap), and doing her hair (with curlers) and makeup.

"She dived in with us and was extremely enthusiastic about the whole concept," Giant Editor in Chief Smokey Fontaine said. "To be fearless enough to rock a national cover in curlers — at the peak of her career — is the sign of a true independent woman."

And speaking of waking up with the star, the article also includes a rare comment from the singer about her beau, Jay-Z.

"It's very easy," she said of their relationship. "He's so quick. And we respect each other. If I have any suggestions he respects it. If he has any suggestions, I respect it. It's just, I don't know, easy. And fun."

Beyoncé also addresses the other man in her life: Mathew Knowles, her father and manager.

"It took awhile for me and my dad to have an understanding," she said. "When I turned 18 and started handling my business more, he went into shock. And we had our issues. I'd say 'No' to something, and he'd book it anyway. Then I'd have to do it because I'd look bad [if I didn't]. We would fight sometimes, and it took about two years, to when I was 20, for him to realize, 'Oh, she is an adult now, and if she doesn't wanna do something, I can't make her do it.' "

The singer is accused of breach of contract after failing to financially compensate businessman GREG WALKER enough after he introduced her to bosses at Wear Me Apparel Inc. Walker alleges the clothing firm paid Knowles "approximately $15 million" in a licensing deal, while his salary fell far shorter. Even though expectant mom Britney Spears poses nude on the cover of August's Harper's Bazaar, she tells the magazine that, when pregnant, "you don't feel the most beautiful all the time."

Spears, 24, is already mom to son Sean Preston, 10 months, and is expecting her second child with husband Kevin Federline in October. In an excerpt obtained by USA Today, she admits to Bazaar that, while pregnancy is "empowering," she felt unprepared and "paranoid" the first time.

But with "this one, I was like, I've just got to wing it," she continues. "It was weird for me at first because of who I am. Wherever you go, they expect you to look a certain way. I'm not supposed to be this big huge pregnant superstar."

She describes Sean Preston as a "rocker kid" and the inspiration for the line of baby clothes she's designing. "Hopefully, next year we'll have a fashion show, maybe at Disney World," says Spears, who got her start as a Mouseketeer.

After child no. 2 is born, Spears is looking forward to getting back in shape and back to work. "After this baby," she says, "I'm going to get really intense with it."

She "can't wait" to perform again, "but I really have to take my time and do it right and be safe," she says. "Actually, not that safe. When you perform, you have to be dangerous."

She also plans to head back to the recording studio, where she hopes to collaborate with Federline, 28. "I'm so proud of Kevin," she says. "He's been working so hard on his own album since I got pregnant with Preston. I'm so lucky. He's a doll; he's adorable."

Aguilera Fans Finally Get Refunds Two Years Later

It's taken over two years, but some Christina Aguilera fans might finally be getting what's owed to them: refunds for tickets to the singer's canceled 2004 tour.

Blaming vocal strain, the singer announced on "TRL" in late April 2004 that she was calling off the second leg of her Stripped tour, a 29-date summer outing with Chingy.Blaming bankruptcy, FansRule, the fan-club-service company that used to operate Aguilera's fan club, didn't make good on the VIP tickets it had sold for the tour. The ticket packages, which ranged from $125 to $325, were supposed to give fans seats in the first 20 rows, get them backstage and even give them a chance to meet the singer.

At first, many of those fans thought they would receive their refunds within the month. But what those fans didn't know was that FansRule had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection — not in the wake of the canceled tour, but actually several months prior — and had no ability to refund the money.

The Aguilera fans who wrote in to MTV News in 2004 complained that getting refunds via their credit-card companies or otherwise just was not happening. Kristin, 23, from New York, said she "basically spent $280 on nothing ... the chances of a refund look pretty slim." Dineen, 16, from Milford, Massachusetts, said she's had "enough." And Zack, 18, from West Bloomfield, Minnesota, said the experience made him "hesitant to support Aguilera in the future." FansRule said at the time that the ticket-refund fiasco was "in no way the fault of Christina Aguilera."

Aguilera's team then hired legal representation to deal with the designated trustees for FansRule, Joe Baldiga and John Aquino, and the bankruptcy court to help out the fans. But it was a slow-going process, punctuated by sporadic hearings where the singer's lawyers had to fight motions from FansRule to pay the trustees before paying back the fans. According to Baldiga, some $320,000 was due as repayment to the hundreds of Aguilera fans who had bought VIP tickets.

But now there's hope in sight. Aguilera's attorneys say there are "sufficient" assets in the bankruptcy estate, now being liquidated, for FansRule to pay fans back, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of Worcester, Massachusetts, is now accepting claims in the case. The singer's provided a form to fill out on her Web site, as well as instructions on how to make a claim and where to mail it by the August 22 deadline.

"You should know that Christina has arranged through her attorneys to ensure that consumers would be receiving the maximum return possible," the singer's attorneys said in a statement, "by virtue of the fact that Christina has agreed that any amounts due to her and her company should instead be used to satisfy the claims of the many fans who purchased tickets through FansRule."

Action star Jackie Chan reportedly leaped on stage during a concert in his native Hong Kong while under the influence of alcohol.

The actor had been invited to attend the performance by Taiwanese singer/songwriter Jonathan Lee on Sunday by the singer himself, but unexpectedly took to the stage and disrupted the show by hurling insults at the crowd, reports the Ming Pao Daily News.

The newspaper claims Chan told the crowd he was drunk and wanted to sing a duet with Lee.
The star also attempted to conduct the band, but only managed to start and stop them several times. Chan's spokesman, Solon So, has refused to comment.

E! Renews "The Simple Life"

E! has renewed "The Simple Life" for a fifth season after tripling the networks ratings. "Til Death Do Us Part", the current installment of "The Simple Life", brought up the networks ratings by up to 50 percent over its past programming. E! also has bought the 36 episodes from the first three seasons that originally aired on Fox to show in syndication. Producers of the show, Bunim-Murray Productions and 20th Century Fox TV, are said to be estatic over the news. The show was cancelled by Fox Broadcasting last fall. No word yet if the feuding socialites will shoot there scenes together or apart like the current season. Let's hope that they film them together, that would be SO fetch! E! Chief Executive Officer Ted Harbert is expected to announce the renewal of "The Simple Life" at a TV Critics Association press event.

Paula Ann Meronek, one of the stars of "The Real World", was arrested early Sunday morning after she bit her boyfriend. The reality star allegedly bit him several times when he refused to let her in their home. Paula was arraigned on Monday and charged with third-degree assault and could end up in prison for up to a year.

"I think it was an argument that led to one thing then another," said Cromwell Police Chief Anthony Salvatore. "He attempted to keep her from the house. It got physical and we were contacted." The 23-year-old country singer is scheduled for surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles. She suffered a "tear in the tissue" of one of her legs, according to a statement from publicist Diana Baron.

"It's a minor surgery, but because of the infection it was urgent that she takes care of it right away," Baron said.

Nick Lachey Takes What's Left Of Him On Fall Tour

Nick Lachey will have plenty to celebrate when he hits the road in September for his first string of solo dates in support of What's Left of Me. The two-month-old collection of tear-jerkers was recently certified gold (500,000 copies) and the singer is about to release the second single from the record, "I Can't Hate You Anymore."

The ex-98 Degrees member is scheduled to hit the road to support his debut solo outing beginning September 20 with a show in Albany, New York, and he'll continue touring through late October.The 26-date tour with a full live band will hit small theaters for intimate shows through October 26 in Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York and Lachey's hometown of Cincinnati. Hilary Duff does Pilates three times a week, she's a fan of the elliptical trainer and while she believes "eating should be fun," she's cut French fries out of her diet. Still, the singer/actress isn't eager to show off her new shape in revealing clothing. "When I wear something that's a little more skimpy, there have been cases where I feel insecure about myself," Duff told Self in the magazine's July cover story. "I'd rather wear a pencil skirt, something I'd feel sexy in." Duff explained that she feels more comfortable "leaving sex to the imagination," and also told the magazine that she has a clothing line on the way designed for girls 15-20 — "stuff I'd wear."

Move over Chicago's Cows on Parade, Aspen Filmfest is unleashing the talents of celebrity artists to paint life-size Labrador retrievers. The dogs will be displayed throughout Aspen and neighboring communities before being auctioned for charity. Celebrities already signed-on to showcase their artistic talents include Mariah Carey, Jack Nicholson, Anjelica Huston, Pierce Brosnan, Ed Bradley, Salma Hayek, Joaquin Phoenix, Goldie Hawn, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Joel Schumacher, Nick Lachey Candice Bergen, and Kathy Bates to name a few.

Best in Show is organized by Aspen Filmfest, the arts organization that brings big name talent, movie debuts, festivals and film series to Aspen. The painted Labradors will be showcased in June and will feature in the 4th of July parade down Aspen's Main Street. The "star" dogs will be auctioned off on August 1st in Aspen - the proceeds of which will support Aspen Filmfest's extensive year-round youth education programs.

For those not able to join in on the benefit auction, additional celebrity dogs will be auctioned off--online--through Charity Folks September 4-20, 2006. Look for Aspen Filmfest's Best in Show splash page on the Charity Folks website starting in June.

Mariah carey has been making recent appearances on Access Hollywood and Jay Leno promoting her tour The Emancipation of Mimi, The Hits, The Voice, The Tour. She has mentioned that she lost the weight by eating "morsels" of food. Instead of eating large amounts of the same food item, you can try everything but just eating a morsel of everything. Mariah measures a morsel about a spoonful.

Also it's been rumored that Mariah will only eat purple food. Apparently purple good helps with the skin and aging. It's also been rumored she has been on a fish and soup diet blended blandly. Yuck if you ask me.
